Brian Daboll doesn’t look like a rock star, but the New York Giants head coach drew a comparison recently to a legendary singer.
Team owner John Mara told Sirius XM NFL Radio that the team jokes around with Daboll about his offseason awards, which include NFL Coach of the Year honors from the AP and Pro Football Writers Association of America.
“We kid him,” Mara said. “I mean, right now he’s Bono walking around New York City.
That’s a reference, of course, to legendary U2 lead singer Bono.

Mara continued the analogy with a nice turn of phrase.
“But I’ve told him — I’ve said: ‘In this business, it doesn’t take long to go from Bono to Bozo. So don’t get your head too big right now.’ But he has been great,” Mara said.
Daboll certainly didn’t look like a clown in his first season as the Giants head coach. Taking a team with some glaring weaknesses (wide receivers) and low expectations, Daboll guided the Giants to a 9-7-1 record. The Giants then upset the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round of the playoffs before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round.
More than that, Daboll has also been credited with boosting the development of quarterback Daniel Jones. After a surprising season, Jones recently signed a four-year, $160 million extension.
