The New England Patriots have had an absolutely brutal season so far this year, and head coach Bill Belichick has gotten a lot of blame as a result. But after the team was able to notch a victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, Patriots defensive back Jabrill Pepper defended his coach.

During his interview after the game, Jabrill Pepper expressed that he was happy that his team was able to get a win for Bill Belichick after all the criticism that the head coach has received this season.

“We needed it. I just feel good we could get it done for Bill and the rest of the coaches,” Peppers said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. “I don’t really like all the flak he’s been getting, because it’s on us as players to go out and execute. I personally feel like the game plan has been phenomenal week in and week out, and when we had opportunities to make plays, we didn’t make them. But we made enough tonight.”

While the Patriots are certainly out of playoff contention themselves, they can still finish the season strong with games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Buffalo Bills – all of which are playoff contenders.
