Every NFL team must make cuts on August 29 to get the rosters down to 53. So, everybody has to endure the same attrition as the season draws near. That attrition can be ruthless, as was reinforced on Tuesday. The Jacksonville Jaguars made several releases, but one jumped off the mat.

The Jags cut head coach Doug Pederson’s son as part of their wave of releases. Tight end Josh Pederson was named one of several cuts the team had to make to bring the roster down to 53. They revealed the news as part of their announcement of their roster cuts.

Pederson, 25, attended UL Monroe before entering the NFL. He’s bounced around the league since he joined and has played for multiple teams thus far in his abbreviated career. Pederson has been on the Jaguars, the San Francisco 49ers, the New Orleans Saints, and the Kansas City Chiefs. The former All-Sun Belt selection played for the USFL’s Houston Gamblers in 2022.

Needless to say, this one stings a little bit more, considering Pederson’s son coaches the team. But decisions like this have to be made daily in the NFL. So it was a tough pill to swallow, most likely. But that’s life in the NFL. Nobody ever said it was going to be easy, and that accounts for absolutely everything.
