The Jacksonville Jaguars have had trouble finding their starting kicker for the upcoming 2022-23 NFL season after bringing in a number of players to try out for the position, and they made a strange move on Tuesday that certainly won’t clear things up.

Jacksonville officially released kicker Ryan Santoso on Tuesday, who was the only kicker left on the roster after releasing previously signed kicker Elliot Fry earlier this month.

In a corresponding move, the team has re-signed quarterback Jake Luton, who the team initially cut last week.

Santoso has not been all that impressive thus far throughout three preseason appearances, going 3-for-6 on kicking attempts.

Given his shaky production this preseason, it is not exactly unexpected that Santoso won’t be the starting kicker heading into the regular season for the Jaguars.

That being said, the team now has no kicker on the roster only four days before the team’s final preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday.

Considering this is the final time that the team will be able to evaluate a kicker in a real game before the regular season, it has to be an uneasy feeling for the organization to not have a kicker chosen to be the starter at this point of training camp.

They are obviously expected to bring someone in between now and their game against the Falcons, and whoever they decide to bring in will hope to bring some stability to the position that is desperately needed right about now in Jacksonville.
