After leading the Philadelphia Eagles to their third Super Bowl in franchise history, the organization has now made Jalen Hurts the highest-paid player in the history of the league.
The news broke Monday morning, as the Eagles and Hurts reportedly agreed to terms on a five-year, $255 million contract extension, according to NFL Network insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, who first reported the massive news. The deal includes $179.304 million in guarantees and a no-trade clause, which is the first in the history of the franchise
According to NFL Network, Hurts’ deal guarantees $110 million fully guaranteed at signing and $126.5 million fully guaranteed by March 2024. The total guarantee is the second-largest guaranteed deal in NFL history, behind only that of Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson.
In his second full season as a starter, the 24-year-old Hurts led the Eagles to a 15-1 record. He completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 3,701 yards with 22 passing touchdowns and six interceptions. Hurts also had a total of 760 rushing yards on 165 attempts with 13 rushing touchdowns. If not for a sprained throwing shoulder, he very likely could’ve been the league MVP and was most certainly in the conversation.
It was only a matter of time before the Eagles paid Hurts, but nobody could’ve predicted the massive deal the two sides agreed to on Monday.
The NFL world reacted to the huge news on social media:

Good on the Eagles to get the deal done before the other Teams/QBs who should be doing similar deals get theirs done. https://t.co/kzjvg2qIla

Jalen Hurts is the perfect example of why swinging on imperfect QB prospects that check athleticism and production boxes is 100% worth it for teams without a stud QB already. It's impossible for any borderline 1st/2nd round non-QB to be worth $179M guaranteed.

Jalen Hurts with a pretty legendary three-plus-year trajectory:
Year 1: Backup QB wins starting job late in year
Year 2: Leads Eagles to playoffs
Year 3: Leads Eagles to Super Bowl
Entering Year 4: Highest-paid QB in the league.— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) April 17, 2023
Dinner on @JalenHurts! 💰💰💰
Congrats bro – well-deserved 🙌

Not a headline I ever would’ve expected at halftime of the 2018 national championship game, but just goes to show some careers are not a straight line. https://t.co/lhPS7vDeAq

The trajectory and improvement in Hurts' game since his first season at Alabama is truly stunning
Incredible story. Hard work pays off. https://t.co/4GlMNPHjJq

First things first, congrats to Jalen Hurts. He's an amazing person and I love to see his success.
Seconds things second…I really want to see what this guarantee structure is. Namely, how much of that is signing bonus, how much is injury gtd, how much is roster bonuses, etc. https://t.co/SMLZzGRnSe
