When the Detroit Lions acquired Jared Goff as part of a trade that sent star quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, many assumed that Goff would simply be a stop-gap quarterback until the team could sign a more long-term option. But not only has he thrived in Detroit, but one Lions player thinks he’s an elite quarterback.

This week, Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs made the case that Jared Goff is a top-five quarterback in the NFC, even comparing him to future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.

“Jared Goff is the best quarterback, he’s really top five in the NFC if you want to be honest if you pull the stat stuff and all that,” Jacobs said according to Sports Illustrated. “I’m gonna be honest, I’ve played against a lot of quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers would be in my top five, but Jared Goff’s up there. Everybody sleeps on my dog and I love how he take it in, like he don’t be cocky or nothing like that. He just soak it in and play ball to this game, that type of reaction. He’s a great quarterback and I can’t wait for him to you know, go out and prove everybody wrong.”

We’ll certainly have to see if Goff does indeed prove everybody wrong this year.
