Jared Goff Syndication: Detroit Free Press

When the Detroit Lions acquired veteran quarterback Jared Goff in a trade that sent quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, there weren’t many people who expected Goff to remain the long-term starting quarterback for the team. But it sounds like head coach Dan Campbell was one of the few who saw it in him.

During his press conference this week, Dan Campbell was asked if he felt like Jared Goff has exceeded expectations since he’s been with the Detroit Lions. But Campbell made it clear that he and everyone else within the organization believed he could be this talented of a quarterback when the acquired him, so he isn’t necessarily surprised by what he’s done with the team.

“No. No,” Campbell said. “No, I’m not surprised. I knew he was tough, I knew he was resilient, and he’s grown. There’s been consistency in what we asked him to do, there’s been consistency in his play.”

The Lions currently have a 5-1 record and are sitting atop the standings in the NFC North division with Goff leading the way. It’s safe to say that the team is pretty happy with the way their trade with the Rams ultimately played out for them.
