Last NFL season, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle led the entire NFL in yards per catch, nearly doubling his total from the previous year. And he claims it was all due to a change in mindset brought about by his coach and one of his teammates.

In 2021, Jaylen Waddled averaged just 9.8 yards per catch. In 2022, however, he led the league with an average of 18.2 yards per catch. It’s a drastic change, and he credits new head coach Mike McDaniel as well as new teammate Tyreek Hill for placing so much emphasis on yards after the catch.

“It was just a mindset,” Waddle said about his jump in yards per reception according to KPRC2. “Mike [McDaniel] came in and really harped on YAC. Having a guy like Cheetah, who’s a YAC monster, you don’t got no choice but to learn from him and soak up all that game that he’s giving.”

Waddle and Hill will look to once again lead the explosive Miami Dolphins offense this year, and they’ll undoubtedly hope that star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is able to stay healthy for the majority of the season this year after he missed several games due to head injuries last year.
