The New York Jets are making it personal in their pursuit of Derek Carr.
The former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback visited with the Jets Monday, and according to ESPN, the visit went “really well from both sides.” ESPN’s Dianna Russini told NFL Live Tuesday the Jets laid out a golden scenario for Carr during his visit.
“They were pretty clear with him — they told him he’s a great quarterback, they told him he’s got a legit surrounding cast of players,” Russini said. “They ran top-to-bottom of why Derek Carr can step in here and take this team, not just to the playoffs, but to the Super Bowl.”

Then, the Jets made this vow to Carr.
“[The Jets] made it super personal, too,” Russini continued. “They said ‘We believe if you come to New York and win, you could be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.’”
Carr has made four Pro Bowl appearances and has looked like an elite quarterback at times in his career, but nobody’s ready to put him in Canton, let alone on the first ballot … at least yet.
The Jets have made it clear they want a veteran quarterback to step in as the final piece of the puzzle in an already loaded offense. The team is also considering Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who still has not informed the Pack about his future plans.
The growing sentiment is the Jets don’t want to wait around on Rodgers and lose out on a chance at Carr.
