The Denver Broncos might have their next head coach in Michigan Wolverines frontman Jim Harbaugh.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Broncos conducted a virtual interview with Harbaugh on Tuesday.

Pelissero said on Good Morning Football that Harbaugh is “a top candidate” after speaking with the Broncos for over two hours. The Broncos will also pursue former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Peyton.

Pelissero said that the Broncos and Peyton already spoke before the two interviews on Jan. 17th.

Harbaugh, as it stands, still currently coaches the Wolverine program. He defeated Ohio State in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history since 1998. The Wolverines went on to win the Big Ten championship before losing to the No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs in the Fiesta Bowl for the semifinal of the College Football Playoff.

“While no one knows the future, I expect I will be enthusiastically coaching Michigan in 2023,” Harbaugh said in a previous statement. Harbaugh is 99-74 in his eight years of coaching in Ann Arbor. He is 1-6 in bowl games during that timespan, too.

The Broncos finished 5-12 on the season, good enough for last place in the AFC West, after trading for quarterback Russell Wilson.
