Baltimore Ravens star running back J.K. Dobbins made an admission on Thursday: He missed minicamp because of his contract.

Dobbins, who is set to enter the final year of his rookie deal, would become a free agent if no extension was given to him next year. He’s due to earn a cap hit of $1,823,004 this season. But the former Ohio State star believes he’s earned much more than that. So, disgruntled, he did not appear at Ravens minicamp.

Speaking to WJZ-TV in Baltimore, Dobbins said (via ESPN) of his time away, “The business side is very hard. It’s very different. … It’s never just roses and daises. It can be hard at times and it’s business though.”

Dobbins pled that he also wants to be a Raven for the rest of his career. But obviously, the hangup is in the details. According to ESPN, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the team expected the former Buckeye this week. Obviously, that did not come to fruition.

Baltimore took care of superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson after many fervent discussions about it. Jackson is now among the highest-paid players at his position. Dobbins hopes for an increase after his three-year career. He missed all of 2021 due to injury, but in 2022, he returned with 92 carries for 520 yards and two touchdowns, appearing in eight games.
