On Thursday morning, it became clear that Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon would not face charges stemming from a shooting that took place at his home this week. And following that news, Mixon’s agent broke his silence on the matter to explain the terrifying situation from Mixon’s perspective.
On Thursday, Joe Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer explained the situation from Mixon’s perspective, revealing that Mixon’s address had recently been made public and he received multiple threats of violence before a scary incident occurred at night.
“On the night of the incident, a number of vehicles pulled up in front of Joe’s house and blocked the street. This occurred when it was very dark outside. Joe and his physical therapist witnessed multiple people exit the vehicles carrying what appeared to be weapons as they ran into neighbors’ yards,” Schaffer said in a statement shared by Tom Pelissero.

“Threats against your life, cars blocking the streets, people running through the neighborhood with what appear to be firearms. Joe and his physical therapist felt threatened and feared for their safety and the safety of the small children in the residence.”
Schaffer said that Mixon called 911 and went outside “for the purpose of trying to figure out what was going on outside his house.” While Mixon was outside, Schaffer said an individual ran directly toward the property and another individual discharged a firearm at them. After the shot was fired, Mixon “interceded to stop the person discharging a firearm.”
Ultimately, there was no threat of danger to Mixon as the individuals outside of the house were young adults playing a game with plastic guns. One of the young adults was injured in the incident, and Schaffer said that Mixon “hates” that someone was harmed.
