Zach Wilson has officially lost Joe Namath.

It’s not that the New York Jets Hall of Fame quarterback is a staunch Wilson defender, but he’s been known to share some optimistic viewpoints about his beloved Jets. Not with Wilson, though. Namath is done. He’s had enough. He’s seen enough. He no longer wants to watch Wilson quarterback his favorite team, and who could blame him?

This season hasn’t gone to plan, obviously, with Aaron Rodgers rupturing his Achilles just four snaps into the year, but Wilson is a dismal contingency plan. Despite him showing the Jets his true colors at every twist and turn, New York has continued to stand by him. And if it were up to Namath, he’d be getting Patrick Mahomes coffee in Kansas City.

Namath, not usually one to hold back, let it fly on Monday’s edition of The Michael Kay Show.

“How can a coach say, ‘The locker room’s together,'” Namath said in response to a question posed by Don La Greca. “How many teams have we been on? Are you telling me there aren’t some cats on the defensive side saying, ‘Whoa, man, what’s wrong with you?’ There’s not all harmony in the locker room. And if there is, they need to get rid of the people. You have to get people in there who are competitors and want to fight to win. These guys don’t have to be in love with each other. If they’re saying they’re in love with each other, they’re BSing you and you have to get rid of them top to bottom.”

Michael Kay asked Namath what he would do to make Zach Wilson better.

“Send him to Kansas City to back up against somebody like Mahomes, maybe, and learn something,” Namath replied. “I wouldn’t keep him. “I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, alright? I’ve seen enough. He has quick feet, can throw a little bit, but I don’t believe in what’s going on up there.”

Namath also had this to say about Wilson’s performance via ESPN’s Rich Cimini:

“I didn’t take anything positive out of it. It was awful.”

An incredulous Namath said of the first sack (untouched): “You sit down? You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened? I thought you’re trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play? What is going on? It’s disgusting.”

Those in the NFL world were quick to react to Namath’s harsh remarks.

Namath will probably not be receiving any invitations to games in the near future if this keeps up.
