After a few seasons of mediocrity that look to be continuing this year, it only makes sense that Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher to… receive a contract multi-year contract extension?

Yep. Following an embarrassing Monday Night Football game (where the only highlight was a fan running onto the field), the Rams are expected to announce an extension for defensive tackle Michael Brockers. At the same time, Los Angeles is expected to announce a three-year extension for Fisher.

This information comes from ESPN’s John Clayton, who revealed such rumor during a radio interview in Seattle recently.

Clayton: The word on the street, I don’t know if they actually put it in one of the…because…they haven’t really put out the Michael Brockers contract extension yet, because I know he just got a contract extension. I think they were gonna put at the bottom of the release that Jeff Fisher signed a 3-year extension.

Host: Are you serious.

Clayton: Yeah. That’s what I’m hearing.

Host: Oh my gosh!

Clayton: But they haven’t put out any release yet.

Talks of a contract extension for Fisher have been reported as far back as late February. Prior to Monday’s news from Clayton, the latest update on Fisher’s extension came back in June.

Clayton dropping this rumor could not come at a worse time for Fisher and the Rams, from a PR perspective. Though expectations weren’t high for the team’s first year back in L.A., losing 28-0 to the Chip Kelly-led 49ers and having Jared Goff in street clothes after paying a ransom to draft him was not an ideal start.

But honestly, this Fisher extension wouldn’t make sense if it happened now or in 2015. Since taking over as the Rams’ coach, the team has been nothing but a 7-9 and 8-8 factory. And after Monday’s performance, 7-9 or 8-8 would be a welcome finish. Based on Fisher’s performance as coach of the Rams, a pink slip should be more likely than an extension.

Fisher, though, is apparently there to stay.
