The Baltimore Ravens got some bad news this week when running back Keaton Mitchell suffered a season-ending knee injury. As a result, the team called up veteran running back Melvin Gordon from the practice squad. And head coach John Harbaugh sounds surprised that the team even has a chance to add such a talented veteran player to the roster.

During a press conference this week, John Harbaugh called it “kind of shocking” that the team had a chance to add Melvin Gordon to the roster.

“Melvin Gordon is a high-pedigree football player in this league,” Harbaugh said according to the Baltimore Ravens official team website. “It’s almost kind of shocking that we’re going to have the opportunity to put him into the mix right now. He’s been practicing so hard, working so hard. His opportunity comes, and he’s been there before. Great player, talented. You can’t hide talent.”

Gordon will now join fellow running backs Gus Edwards and Justice Hill on the team’s active roster to bolster the team’s running back options for the remainder of the season.

We’ll have to see how Gordon is able to perform down the stretch for the team as they try to make a Super Bowl run.
