As of 12:01 AM on Monday October 3, Tom Brady was allowed to practice with the New England Patriots again. Naturally, his teammates were really excited to have him back, but some were a little more excited than others.

When the clock struck 12:01 a.m., New England as a whole celebrated in their minds and hearts. Brady was back on a team that managed to go 3-1 behind its second- and third-string quarterbacks. With Brady back, who knows how well the Patriots will do. Regardless, Julian Edelman is just happy to have things back to normal.

Edelman doesn’t tweet much—According to USA Today, Edelman’s social media manager Sam Biggers does most of the posting on Edelman’s various social media accounts—but his “#free” tweet was different.

“I’ll send him stuff, and be like, ‘Hey, can we get this up?’” Edelman said. “And sometimes I’ll be so busy with football during the day that I’ll be like, tell me what’s going on in the world, if I missed something we should post about. I approve everything.”

But it was Edelman himself who posted the “#free” tweet.

“That ‘free’ tweet? Oh yeah, that was me,” Edelman said. “I posted that myself.”

“But what’s the big deal?” Edelman added. “It could’ve meant anything. Lots of people get out of jail every day. It could’ve just generally been for them, right?”

Oh okay, totally makes sense that Edelman was tweeting for all the people who got out of jail. Totally makes sense. 100% believable.

Sam Biggers, the social media manager, told FTW the response to Edelman’s tweet was massive compared to the rest of his posts.

“We have some of the best engagement of any athlete, I think,” said Edelman. “I really care about being authentic.”

Whether you’re a Patriots fan or not, the tweet is funny and appropriately timed. Yet another punch thrown back at the NFL for the entire “Deflategate” scandal.
