Even though Nick Chubb has been the starting running back for the Cleveland Browns for the past several seasons, Kareem Hunt has served an important role in the offense. But it sounds like the Browns don’t think he can be as productive anymore and will not be bringing him back.

During a question and answer session with fans this week, Cleveland Browns insider Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com was asked about Kareem Hunt and his status with the team. Pluto had a pretty candid response, revealing that Hunt will not be back with the team next season as the team thinks his speed is “slipping.”

“I kept hearing from the Browns that Hunt was ‘slipping’ in terms of his speed. He averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry. Pro Football Focus ranked him 53rd out of 62 qualifying running backs,” Pluto wrote for Cleveland.com. “Hunt is 27. One theory in the NFL is running backs in their late 20s are in decline. That’s the view of Hunt. He’s not coming back to Cleveland

Since he will not be returning to Cleveland, Hunt is now a free agent and is free to sign with any team he wishes. We’ll have to see where he ultimately chooses to sign.
