Going into this upcoming season, many thought that the quarterback situation in San Francisco was solved and that Brock Purdy would start next year. But as Lee Corso would say, not so fast, my friend. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that no decision has been made between Purdy or Trey Lance.

Purdy came in to play quarterback last year for the 49ers after backup Jimmy Garoppolo sustained an injury in a game against Miami. He would then lead the Niners to the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he also sustained an injury.

But Shanahan said recently to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche that no decision had been made yet.

“We’ve got three guys who can play, and there’s only one spot, and we have a good team,” Shanahan said via NBC Sports Bay Area. “So I see it as a cool situation. And last year, we had some unknown.”

That’s good news for Lance, whose status grew in doubt when he got injured to start the year, but now it seems that he will at least get an opportunity to start.

“We believed in Trey, but he hadn’t gone out and done it yet,” the 49ers coach said via NBCSBA. “But we believed in him. We got to see him for a year and a half and what he could do, and he lost that opportunity, which happens in football.”

But Shanahan doesn’t seem too worried about the situation and thinks the team is in a good spot.

“So now we’re in this situation, and it’s just — I get how everyone wants something set in stone, but it’s not set in stone. But I love the options, and I love the experience that Brock got,” he added.
