The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson have been engaged in contract negotiations for two years but have failed to come to an agreement. And that whole situation puts head coach John Harbaugh in quite an awkward situation.

On one hand, Harbaugh is loyal to his team and will be responsible for winning games regardless of who plays quarterback for the team in the future. But on the other hand, he clearly has a good relationship with his starting quarterback and wants him around for the foreseeable future.

During a press conference this week, Harbaugh addressed some of that awkwardness, acknowledging that the business part of the NFL is “not easy” but said that he’s “fervently hopeful” that the two sides can get a long-term deal done.

“It just is what it is. It’s part of the business when you have a great quarterback and you make a great decision in the draft,” Harbaugh said. “He’s my quarterback. He’s my guy. I love him. As a coach, I’m just looking forward to seeing it get done. But it’s not easy. That’s the business part of it. But I’m really hopeful and excited – fervently hopeful and can’t wait for it to get done.”

We’ll certainly have to see how this all plays out for the Ravens.
