With the Baltimore Ravens placing a non-exclusive franchise tag on star quarterback Lamar Jackson this month, teams across the league are now free to negotiate with the former MVP, and there has been plenty speculating that perhaps the New England Patriots could or should be interested. But one former Patriots star doesn’t seem to think it would be a good move.

Longtime New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty retired earlier this month and this week, he did an interview with WEEI radio, discussing several things related to the team. When Lamar Jackson came up, McCourty revealed that he doesn’t think it would be a good move because the team is not good enough around the quarterback to guarantee the move would work.

McCourty doesn’t think the team should make the move unless Jackson were the one and only missing piece on the roster.

“I don’t know if I would do that, because once I give Lamar Jackson that money, we don’t have enough right now, to me, that would be like ‘This team is going to win a Super Bowl if we just put Lamar Jackson here instead of Mac,’” McCourty said according to ESPN.

McCourty makes a valid point. We’ll have to see whether or not the Patriots choose to pursue Jackson.
