During the 2023 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills weren’t just focused on adding players through the draft. According to some recent comments from Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane, they were also brokering pretty surprising deals with free agents.

This week, Beane revealed that he actually made a promise to veteran running back Latavius Murray, promising that if he signed with the team immediately, the Bills would not select a running back in the NFL Draft.

“That was actually done while we were still drafting,” Beane said of the deal to bring in Murray according to New York Upstate. “I reached out to his agent on Saturday and I was like, ‘There’s still some backs I can draft, but I could use some picks elsewhere at some different positions if you’ll go ahead and do this deal. I won’t draft a running back.’”

While this isn’t necessarily surprising by any means, it certainly is an interesting look into how some of these free-agent deals work and the absolute chaos that happens throughout draft weekend.

It’s a big move for the Bills and Murray. We’ll have to see how his career with the team plays out and what sort of impact he’ll make this season.
