New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones had a pretty rough season that saw him benched multiple times, including the final game of the season where he was third on the depth chart. But he has recently made it clear that as long as he’s on the roster, he’s intending to compete for a starting role.

Mac Jones is under contract by the Patriots through the 2024 season, though his future with the team is very much in question after a tumultuous season in 2023. But regardless of where he is playing next season, he intends to do everything he can to compete for a starting job.

“I’m going to compete and I’m going to do that wherever I’m at on any NFL team whether it’s here or somewhere else,” Jones said according to Boston.com

“Obviously I have a lot of respect for the people in this locker room, and that’s where it starts. I feel like I let people down with my play. A lot of that stuff is in my control and some of it is not. So, I’m going to do everything I can for my next opportunity whether that’s here and really just push forward and continue to be Mac. That’s what it’s all about. Don’t let that waver.”

It’s a good mentality for Jones regardless of what happens. We’ll have to see how things shake out for him.
