The Pittsburgh Steelers did not have a particularly strong showing during their season-opening game against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend, especially on offense. The team managed just seven points in a 30-7 loss to open the season, continuing a pattern under offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

As Josh Rowntree of 93.7 The Fan points out, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been particularly brutal on offense with Matt Canada leading the offense, barely cracking 20 points in their 36 games with him as the offensive coordinator.

“The #Steelers have now played 36 games with Matt Canada as the team’s offensive coordinator. The offense has failed to produce over 20 points in regulation in 27 of those 36 games,” Rowntree said in a tweet on Sunday evening.

It’s an absolutely brutal stat that highlights just how lackluster the team has been on the offensive side of the ball in recent years, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter as a result with many people calling for Canada to be fired.

We’ll have to see whether or not the Steelers can improve on offense throughout the year, but this is turning into a concerning pattern under Canada, and it’s not looking like Mike Tomlin’s decision to bring him back as offensive coordinator is paying off.
