The future of the Chicago Bears is in many ways very much up in the air. This also seems to include the job security of second-year head coach Matt Eberflus.

Chicago finds itself in a very advantageous position heading into the upcoming offseason, holding the rights to the No. 1 overall pick via the Carolina Panthers that they received in the Panthers trade-up last year for Bryce Young. They could also have another top-ten pick with their own first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

With so much at stake this offseason, the organization needs to be sure it has the right man at the helm at the head coaching position to lead this young team into the future.

This may be why Bears team president Kevin Warren was not eager to confirm Eberflus’ status as the head coach for the 2024 season.

“You know, as we’ve said all along, we just continually will stay focused on finishing the season strong, take a big-picture, methodical look at everything,” said Warren via Mark Grote of 670 The Score in Chicago. “I’m looking forward to going to GB tomorrow.”

It’s not exactly the reassuring comments that Eberflus probably would have liked to hear heading into the final game of the season. But it at least seems like there is a possibility that he will be their head coach going into next season.

In nearly two years in Chicago, Eberflus doesn’t exactly have the best head coaching record to fall back on. The team has a 10-23 record during his coaching tenure in Chicago.

However, the Bears have shown some extremely positive signs down the stretch of this season that could be telling on their vast improvement going into 2024. The team has won four of its last five games, a silver-lining to a third-straight season missing the playoffs.

Eberflus’ tenure as head coach is not the only question mark within the organization. The team will also need to decide whether Justin Field is the quarterback of the future in Chicago, or whether they will use the No. 1 overall draft pick to select a new starting quarterback.
