After a strong start to his NFL career where broke several records and briefly became the league’s highest-paid wide receiver, New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Michael Thomas has had some rough injury luck, playing only 10 games during the past three seasons. But it sounds like the team is optimistic he can make an impact this season.

During a press conference this week, New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen sent a clear message about Thomas as the team prepares for next season, saying “I like where he’s at” as the team works to try to get him ready for training camp.

“That’s our hope and our expectation,” Allen said according to Pro Football Talk. “I wish I had the crystal ball to say exactly what he’ll be ready to do. All our energy is focused on getting him ready to go in training camp. We’re excited about it. Mike’s an important piece on our offense. When he’s playing at the level he’s capable of playing at, we’re a much better offense.”

The Saints recently signed former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr during free agency. If Thomas is healthy, that would be a big boost to the new-look Saints’ passing attack this season.
