Former MVP winner Lamar Jackson is one of the most electrifying players in all of football as both a rusher and a passer, and some significant news emerged on Friday regarding his ongoing contract negotiations with the Baltimore Ravens.

Ravens general manager Eric Decosta revealed in a statement that the organization was unable to come to terms on a contract extension for Jackson, and added that the organization will work towards a new contract at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Lamar’s elusiveness and rushing ability have been largely unmatched by any player in NFL history, but one former player that he has been largely compared to is former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

Vick discussed Jackson’s failed contract negotiations with the Ravens on Friday, saying that Jackson ultimately deserves to be paid as one of the top quarterbacks in all of football.

“It’s no question that Lamar deserves the money,” Vick told The 33rd Team on Friday. “Maybe more money than some of the guys who is making a lot more than him right now. Just pure talent alone, he should be in the top 3 no doubt.”

Jackson has led the Ravens to a ton of success over his career, with the teaming holding a 37-12 record in games that Jackson has started since 2018.

One thing that doesn’t help his case for his upcoming contract situation was getting injured last season, missing the final five games of the season last year for Baltimore.

On skill alone, Vick is certainly right that Jackson deserves to be among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

He likely will be paid significantly next offseason, but it remains to be seen whether or not that will be with the  Ravens, or if he seeks other offers in free agency.
