The Green Bay Packers are crumbling right before our very eyes. A rough loss on the road Sunday night against Washington dropped the Packers to 4-6, two games behind the Vikings and Lions in the NFC North.

A path to the postseason is beginning to jam up in front of them, and head coach Mike McCarthy knows it.

“We understand clearly what’s in front of us, so six losses puts your ass against the wall,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Sunday. “And that’s where we are.”

The Packers have reached the postseason seven straight seasons, which means the Packers have a lot of work to do in order to keep that streak alive. Fixing the defense is essential, if it is at all possible. Green Bay has allowed at least 30 points in all four losses during this streak, and the last two opponents have put more than 40 on the board. Opponents have scored 30 points or more in five of the last six games.

The only team not to score that many was Chicago, so good job Green Bay. You stopped Chicago (or did Chicago stop itself? Who knows?).

The Packers have now lost four games in a row and will hope their road struggles can vanish next week with a Monday night game in Philadelphia.

“We’ve lost four in a row, lost some guys tonight to injury,” McCarthy explained. “It’s important for us to get back home, hopefully assess where we are, move forward and get ready for Philadelphia. Just didn’t play well enough.”

The Eagles are undefeated at home this season, by the way.

As head coach, McCarthy is still confident his team can find a way to battle back and make a push for the playoffs. A record of 10-6 or even 9-7 might get the job done, but that means the Packers have to go on a roll right now and this defense may not be capable of allowing that to happen.
