On Saturday night, the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars made the decision to call the game early after Dolphins rookie receiver Daewood Davis left the game on a stretcher in the fourth quarter, and Miami head coach Mike McDaniel thinks that was the right decision.

After the game, Mike McDaniel said that he and Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson came to the decision along with two NFLPA representatives, and he said that was the right decision “without a shadow of a doubt.”

“The collection of the two NFLPA representatives, Doug and myself made the right call,” McDaniel said after the game according to Pro Football Talk. “The two teams agreed that football shouldn’t be played any more tonight. Without a shadow of a doubt, I know that was the right call, so I’m proud of the collective group for doing the right thing.”

McDaniel said that based on the emotional toll the scary situation took on the players, it would have been “inappropriate” to continue the game.

“You could see in the collective faces of both teams, their mind wasn’t on football at all. So I thought it was inappropriate to play football,” McDaniel said.

This is the second game this preseason that has ended prematurely as the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers also ended a preseason game early when after Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden was taken off the field on a stretcher. But Bolden was released from the hospital the following day.

As for Davis, he has movement in all of his extremities and the initial news surrounding his injury seems to be good.
