On Tuesday afternoon, the New York Jets made a major move at the quarterback position, signing veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian to their practice squad, bolstering the team’s depth, talent, and experience at the position after losing future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending ankle injury earlier this month. But even if he’s on the roster, he won’t be playing this week.

During his weekly press conference on Wednesday, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced that Trevor Siemian would be inactive for this week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Though Saleh did praise the new quarterback, calling him a “quick learner.”

“He’s obviously got a lot of games under his belt. He’s a quick learner, a quick study from my understanding. Just giving the ability to come on the practice squad and help us out was the best decision for us,” Saleh said according to Pro Football Talk.

Obviously, this is a pretty important announcement to anyone who thought he might immediately replace Zach Wilson, who has struggled this season. As a result, people had plenty to say about it on social media.

The Jets have publicly expressed confidence in Zach Wilson following Rodgers’ injury. It will be interesting to see if the addition of Siemian changes that.
