The New York Jets will “move on” from former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson.

Jay Glazer of Fox broke the news before the NFL’s 1 p.m. slate.

‘The Jets are expected to move on from QB Zach Wilson, after this season,” NFL reporter Dov Kleiman  tweeted. “Wilson has lost even more confidence in himself after their last game, according to Jay Glazer. “The 2021 second overall pick’s time in NY is ending.”

The Jets originally drafted Wilson with their first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after a career with the BYU Cougars where earned such accolades as the 2020 Boca Rotan Bowl MVP and the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl MVP.

The Jets previously benched Wilson in favor of backup Mike White after a Nov. 20th performance in which the offense mustered three points in a 10-3 loss to their AFC East rival, the New England Patriots.

Wilson angered several teammates after that performance. The second-year quarterback said in his postgame presser that he didn’t feel the offense let the defense down. He then reportedly walked around the locker room as if he wasn’t a major problem.

An injury to White forced Wilson back into the staring role. In his last start, a 19-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 22 on Thursday Night Football, Wilson completed 9 of his 18 passes for 92 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception.

If this is the end of Wilson’s season, let alone tenure with the team that drafted him, he will finish his 2022 campaign with 1,668 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Jets face the Seattle Seahawks on the road on Sunday.
