Nick Bosa did not dance around the question Tuesday when asked about his contract extension talks with the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners’ pass-rushing star and former Top 5 pick showed the same direct approach he takes when rushing the quarterback, getting straight to the point.

Bosa is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he and the team are incentivized to get an extension done. When asked if he thinks a new contract will be in place by the start of training camp in late July, Bosa sounded very confident.

“It’s pretty high,” Bosa said via 49erswebzone.com. “Yeah, I think I’m pretty confident about that.”

Bosa can expect a huge number. The talented defensive end recorded 18.5 sacks last season and earned the honors of NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns is the highest-paid defensive end, earning $25 million per season.

However, Bosa is more appropriately classed with edge rushers. Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt currently leads the way in salary in that category at $28 million annually, while Bosa’s older brother, Joey, pulls down $27 million for the Los Angeles Chargers.

So the baseline has been set. Bosa is not worried about getting shorted in his next contract.

“I think I’ll get what I deserve,” Bosa said.
