The Kansas City Chiefs were hit with quite a scare during Saturday night’s Division Round showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars when star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a leg injury that momentarily kept him out of the game. But Mahomes did return to the game even despite a high ankle sprain and it’s sounding more and more like he’s going to play in this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
On Monday afternoon, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid met with the media and gave a big update on Patrick Mahomes revealing that the star quarterback is “gonna play” and that Mahomes’ injury isn’t quite as serious as the injury Mahomes sustained during the 2019 season.
#Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that QB Patrick Mahomes "worked hard on the treatment and is doing OK." Asked about his status, Reid says he's "gonna play" and that this isn't as serious as the one Mahomes suffered in 2019.

This is obviously massive news ahead of the AFC Championship game showdown with the Bengals, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Never understand why coaches come out and say a key player is going to play when it’s somewhat up in the air. Obviously best thing to do is say it’s a 50-50 chance (even if u know he’s gonna play) so the other team has to spend time prepping for two QBs. Bozos. https://t.co/WGby2eDVfe

There really needs to be a study on Mahomes tendons and ligaments to find out how he avoids major damage on these hits. https://t.co/lbJc38LLkH

That first pressure/sack is gonna have him worst than before. That arm won't save him https://t.co/EeSNNBrD8J

Even if he does play, however, it’s unlikely that Mahomes will be 100 percent healthy during Sunday’s game.
