Pete Carroll is the oldest coach in the NFL, he just doesn't always act that way. That was the case during a Seahawks practice on Thursday. The Seattle Seahawks celebrated a huge win on Monday Night Football. Seattle won comfortably over the New York Giants 24-3 in a game they felt rarely challenged in. But Seahawks coach Pete Carroll wasn’t all smiles after the game. Carroll admitted that he wants a dangerous style of tackle “out of the game.”

Carroll appeared on Seattle Sports 710, targeted hip-drop tackles, and said he doesn’t believe they should be in the game anymore. This became a focal point of the discussion after his quarterback, Geno Smith, left the game following a hit by Giants linebacker Isaiah Simmons. Carroll was frustrated that Simmons wasn’t flagged for the hit, which was made out of bounds. But he also conceded that the tackle needs to be legislated out.

“It should have just been recognized. … I don’t even care about the penalty,” Carroll admitted via the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta. “We’ve just got to get that out of ball. It’s so dangerous.”

Smith had already sounded off about the hit. He considered it a “dirty play,” so you won’t have to think too hard about how he feels about it.

Luckily, it sounds like Smith is going to be fine enough to keep being under center for Seattle. The Seahawks have a 3-1 record through the first four games of the season and are 2-0 on the road.
