Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin benched starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky at halftime against the New York Jets in Week 4 due to Trubisky’s confrontation with wide receiver Diontae Johnson. Trubisky has yet to regain the starting role despite new starter, rookie Kenny Pickett, currently being in concussion protocol.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Johnson seemingly confirmed the confrontation happened while making it clear that he still supports Trubisky as a teammate.

“I don’t want to get too much into detail. We’re both passionate about the game. Stuff happens during football. We’re fine. We talked about it. We made up. Better over the whole situation. No hard feelings toward each other,” Johnson said.

“That’s still my guy at the end of the day. I’m gonna still keep playing for him, cheering for him. Whatever it is he needs me to do to help him look good out there, I’m going to do it. Like I said, there’s no bad blood between us at all. It’s just us being football players at times, and we’re not going to let that stop us from achieving the goal that everybody is trying to achieve around here.”

Johnson, Trubisky and the Steelers are next in action Sunday when they travel to Florida to face the Miami Dolphins in AFC play.
