There was a time in my life, and probably yours, where you may have thought mermaids could possibly be a real thing that existed in this world. Of course, as we grew older we moved on from the idea that there was a real life Ariel singing about her collection of gadgets and gizmos and whozits and whatzits. Mermaids were fictional. We know this, but Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman William Hayes is not convinced. To this day, he still thinks mermaids are real.

In a clip from HBO’s Hard Knocks, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher discussed Hayes’ quirky logic.

OK, you want to believe that somewhere in the deep of the ocean waters yet to be explored there could potentially be a mermaid species living somewhere? Fine, suit yourself. There is no evidence to suggest it is impossible, technically. There is, however, specific and detailed evidence that dinosaurs existed. We can’t blame Hayes too much, though. I mean, dinosaurs aren’t for everybody. Maybe Hayes just dozed off anytime dinosaurs were being discussed in school, so he missed some critical facts along the way.

Yo Ross, a bunch of people saw The Little Mermaid too.
