The Baltimore Ravens offense has been the subject of criticism for the last few seasons. A lot of that has to do with Greg Roman, who has been the team’s offensive coordinator since 2019. However, that criticism will simply have to go somewhere else now.

Roman and the Ravens officially parted ways on Thursday. Roman’s agency, Athletes First, confirmed the news. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo first reported on the severed ties between the OC and the Ravens.

“After coaching the Baltimore Ravens offense to a third playoff appearance in four years, Ravens Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman is stepping away from the team to pursue other opportunities,” his agency wrote.

Roman was later quoted as saying, “After visiting with Coach Harbaugh and after huddling with my family, I have decided that now is the right time to move on from the Ravens so that I can explore new challenges and opportunities.” His quote offered appreciation to both coach John Harbaugh and team owner Steve Bisciotti.

Roman had led strong offenses with both Baltimore and the San Francisco 49ers within the last 10 years. But the Ravens’ offense trekked too far into the mud. It’s true the team sorely missed Lamar Jackson and still somehow doesn’t have a legitimate, capable receiving threat outside of All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews. And it’s not just the QB that’s been the issue either. JK Dobbins recently went off on the coaching staff prior to Roman stepping away.

Reactions trickled out shortly after the move was made.

Head coach John Harbaugh commented on the move, saying, “We are grateful for Greg’s great work and abilities, and we wish him and his wonderful family the utmost happiness going forward.”

RG3 gave him high praise. “Greg Roman may be of the greatest run-game tacticians I have ever been around at the NFL level.”

Pat McAfee and A.J. Hawk discussed the coaching move on Pat’s show. Pat considered Lamar the “X Factor” in the conversation about who will replace Roman as OC.

Some Ravens fans, like user OTR Tru, chose to use the moment to, uh, “celebrate” the departure.

As did Ravens fan and WHAS 11 reporter, Tyler Greever.
