The Baltimore Ravens hit the transaction wire on Friday as the week concluded. Baltimore sprang to sign a former Super Bowl champion, as the Ravens agreed to terms with running back Melvin Gordon.

The Ravens signed the former Wisconsin standout to a one-year deal, they announced on Twitter. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the terms of the deal were $3.1 million.

“We’ve agreed in principle on a 1-year deal with RB Melvin Gordon, pending a physical,” the team revealed.

Gordon will join his third team by signing with the Ravens. The Los Angeles Chargers – then in San Diego – drafted the former Badger in 2015. He spent five seasons with the team before moving on to AFC West Division rival Denver. In San Diego and LA, Gordon rushed for 4,240 yards and scored 36 rushing touchdowns. He scored 10 in both 2016 and 2018, the two times he was named to the Pro Bowl.

He then played three seasons with the Broncos, running for 2,222 yards and scoring 19 rushing touchdowns. Last season he rushed for the fewest yards (318) and touchdowns (2) in his career and only starred in 10 games on a dismal Denver team.

Gordon hopes to continue his career with the contending Ravens, who should be souped up for 2023. They re-signed Lamar Jackson to a lucrative contract, acquired Odell Beckham Jr., and drafted Boston College receiver Zay Flowers. The offense will look plenty different and, now, will assuredly look even more different with Gordon in tow.

The NFL world reacted to the news.
