The Baltimore Ravens released veteran defensive end Calais Campbell on Monday.

The Ravens officially moved from a 2017 first-team All-Pro selection, and they did so in a move that frees up a significant amount of cap space. According to multiple reports, the release created $7 million in cap space for the team.

“Calais defines what it is to be a Raven,” Baltimore executive vice president and general manager Eric DeCosta wrote in a statement. “He personifies professionalism, and his contributions to our organization — both on and off the field — are immense. With his passion, leadership and toughness, Calais has undoubtedly produced a Hall of Fame-worthy career. While this is the worst part of the business, we have not closed the door on the possibility of him returning to our team in the future.”

The 36-year-old Campbell had been with Baltimore since 2020 after the Ravens acquired him in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. During his career, Campbell has split time between the Ravens, Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals. He was named a first-team All-Pro selection in 2017, and has received six Pro Bowl nods over the course of his career.

Playing in 14 games in 2022, Campbvell recorded 36 total tackles (4 for loss) with two forced fumbles and 5.5 sacks.
