Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III believes that Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin should receive a huge honor that every kid that has dreams of making it to the NFL thinks about.
Hamlin, of course, is most well known for his on-field collapse, when he went into cardiac arrest during Week 17’s Monday Night Football game between Hamlin’s Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals. His inspirational story helped him recently earn the Pro Football Writers’ Association’s George Halas Award last month.
Griffin is now calling for him to receive another huge honor that would not only honor him, but also the medical personnel that quickly acted and helped save his life.
The former NFL star took to social media to call for Hamlin to be named the cover athlete for the popular video game Madden 24, which is expected to be released sometime in August.
EA Sports should make Damar Hamlin the Madden 24 Cover Athlete.

“Celebrate a moment that brought us together for once regardless of what team you cheer for,” Griffin added.

He also tweeted that the moment would acknowledge the Bills’ medical team for their heroic effort.
“Celebrate Denny Kellington and the professionals who saved his life with a briefing detailing all the work they did to save him and get him back on the field. It’s important for the youth to know these facts and Madden has their attention.

The cover athlete for Madden is typically reserved for some of the best players in the NFL. Having Hamlin as the cover athlete would certainly be out of the box. Many NFL fans pointed that out in response to Griffin’s suggestion.
Why posterize further one of the scariest moments of that young man’s life?
It’s a blessing he’s healthy now, but I think he just wants to put it behind him and move on with his life.
It brought us all together, sure, but idolizing that event on the Madden cover seems a bit much.— Eric Downey (@EDowneyOfficial) June 6, 2023
A lot of athletes grew up wanting to be as great as those on the Madden cover. I'm happy for Damar's recovery but I bet if you'd ask him if he thinks he has earned a Madden cover via his play, he'd be the first to tell you "No, put someone more deserving on the cover."

Just because he had a miraculous recovery doesn’t mean he should grace the cover. I think JJetas or Hurts should grace the cover.

I think he’s been thru enough https://t.co/jqfRkfp2iG

the cover athlete being a 63 OVR would be hilarious https://t.co/ZEUbsxYOdn

It would be a very cool honor for Hamlin to receive, but it seems like an unlikely one. We will see who exactly the cover athlete is when EA Sports reveals their cover later this week.
