With the New York Jets’ 16-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday dropping them to 4-5 on the season, many have wondered if head coach Robert Saleh would make a change at quarterback.
But as it turns out, the Jets’ third-year coach is sticking with the status quo, revealing to reporters that Zach Wilson will remain New York’s starting quarterback heading into its Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
“He’s actually playing pretty well,” Saleh said, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Jets’ HC Robert Saleh told reporters today that he’s sticking with Zach Wilson as his starting QB. “He’s actually playing pretty well,” Saleh said.

While Wilson originally entered the 2023 campaign slated to be the Jets’ backup quarterback, he was thrust back into the starting lineup after Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles four offensive snaps into the season. In nine games this season, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft has completed 59.8% of his passes for 1,863 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions, while adding 184 rushing yards on 29 attempts.
Although Wilson’s play has improved from his previous two seasons, poor performances in losses to the Los Angeles Chargers and Raiders in the last two weeks have led to speculation regarding his job security. In addition to Rodgers — who is eyeing an improbable mid-December return — the Jets also have quarterback Tim Boyle on their roster and Trevor Siemian on their practice squad.
Following Saleh’s announcement that he is sticking with Wilson at quarterback, many took to social media to weigh in.

The Jets could still be a playoff team even without Rodgers if Saleh wasn’t in denial https://t.co/3G3yKbl8rr

Ummmm but the Jets haven’t scored a TD in like a century. 🤣
Not playing well AT ALL! https://t.co/3A0REpdhrW— Lyle 🏝️ (@_FromTheIsland) November 14, 2023
An NFL HC literally consists of winning, losing, lying, going to the SB or getting fired. No matter what, their paycheck is never at risk. https://t.co/DhJ2Ruixgz

I honestly thought this was a parody Schefter account when I scrolled past the tweet. Like, that can’t be a real quote, right? This is starting to remind me of the final weeks of Joe Judge’s HC stint. Feels like Saleh is almost trying to get fired. https://t.co/NMyJiKJIeh

One day I hope to find someone that loves me as much as Saleh loves Wilson https://t.co/yfMn8Urcvl

I get sticking up for your QB but at some point you need to realize he’s just not going to get it done. Saleh is going to lose the locker room and then his job if he keeps this up. https://t.co/K3FY86UBbW
