Following the Washington Commanders win over the New England Patriots this weekend, Commanders defensive lineman Jonathan Allen had quite a bold claim about quarterback Sam Howell, declaring that Howell was “the future” of the franchise and that he would be the starter for the next five or 10 years. Howell hopes that’s the case.

During his own press conference this week, Sam Howell reacted to that claim from Jonathan Allen, making it clear that he would love to be the team’s starter for the foreseeable future, he’s just focused on one game at a time at this point.

“I want to be the quarterback here for a really long time,” Howell said according to ESPN. “But how I’m going to get to that point is taking it one day at a time. That’s the way I look at it. I never worry about the future.”

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera seemed to agree with the assessment from Jonathan Allen.

“We feel we have a quarterback,” Rivera said. “This franchise has been looking for quite some time and for the first time in a while, I think that that guy might be here.”

We’ll have to see if Howell can establish himself as a franchise quarterback in Washington.
