NFL players routinely change teams, so it’s unsurprising to see friendships come and go with them.

However, one friendship that’s apparently stood the test of time is that of Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf and his former quarterback, Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks famously traded Wilson to the Denver Broncos last offseason. Though the two players rarely talk football anymore, they still are in consistent communication according to Metcalf, who spoke with NFL Network’s Taylor Bisciotti.

“Probably every day,” Metcalf  told Bisciotti when asked how often he communicates with Russell.

“We really don’t talk much competition,” Metcalf said. “It’s more checking in with the family, checking in how each other’s doing.”

Metcalf has been a longtime back of Wilson. When other players called him “corny” last season and insinuated that his wife, Ciara, only married him for financial gain, Metcalf defended his former quarterback.

“Great man, great husband, great father,” Metcalf famously said then about Wilson.

The Seahawks drafted Metcalf, then a product of Ole Miss, in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 64th overall pick. He earned second-team All-Pro in 2020 as well as a Pro Bowl bid.

Metcalf caught 29 touchdown passes from Wilson in his career.
