The Los Angeles Chargers officially have a new head coach.

The team has hired Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, who will be making his return to the NFL after nine seasons at Michigan including a national championship victory earlier this month.

The Chargers announced the news Wednesday evening, ending weeks of speculation that featured Harbaugh interviewing with the team twice and also interviewing with the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the month.

Harbaugh will forever be remembered fondly by Wolverines fans for bringing the program back to heights it hadn’t previously reached in 25 years

Social media had a lot to say about the big move for Harbaugh.

Former Michigan offensive lineman Taylor Lewan said, “Congratulations to Jim Harbaugh becoming the head coach of the LA Chargers. A true Michigan Man Simply a champion.”

The Athletic’s Ari Wasserman pointed out, “Jim Harbaugh was one of the few program saviors who actually lived up to the hype. For that, he’s a college football legend forever.”

ESPN’s Dick Vitale got in on the fun, saying, “It is official that Jim Harbaugh is named Head Coach of Chargers & I hear they are jumping with joy in the football offices in Columbus as Ohio State must be thrilled that they don’t have to deal with him anymore.”

Duke’s Mayo Bowl correctly points out that, “Jim Harbaugh will never win the big one,” as NFL teams are not eligible for the game.
