The Pittsburgh Steelers maneuvered on Thursday to extend the contract of one of their quarterbacks. Mitchell Trubisky, a former No. 2 overall pick, will receive a 2-year extension on his contract with the Steelers. General manager Omar Khan announced his extension on Thursday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show.

The Steeler GM talked with McAfee about Trubisky’s extension. “Today, we’re finishing up an extension with Mitch Trubisky,” Khan announced. “We feel good about our quarterback room. So that was an important piece,” he noted. Khan waxed poetic then about Trubisky, starter Kenny Pickett, and veteran backup Mason Rudolph.

Trubisky has had a topsy-turvy NFL career. The Chicago Bears drafted the former Tar Heel over Patrick Mahomes, a maligned decision, as you can imagine. Trubisky did quarterback a playoff team in Chicago in 2018 but was often skewered for poor performances. He then went on to play for the Buffalo Bills before landing with Pittsburgh. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Steelers apparently like what they’ve seen from him so much that they want him around for two additional years.

“It’s a 2-year extension for Mitch Trubisky that also lowers the QB’s cap number for the 2023 season (previously $10M),” Rapoport tweeted.

The NFL world had plenty to say about the news about one of the quarterbacks for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
