Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers seemed to have inadvertently announced their 2022 quarterback through social media as they posted their team captains for the season and one of them was quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

The team then released their depth chart for Week 1 of the season and put all questions to bed as Trubisky was slated as QB1 with Mason Rudolph backing him up and rookie Kenny Pickett at No. 3.

This news ends weeks of speculation as to who may end up starting for Pittsburgh. Many NFL experts thought that Pickett could become the Steelers starting quarterback after the solid preseason that he has had, but it appears that head coach Mike Tomlin wants to take his time with the rookie.
One person who already thought Trubisky should start is retired Steelers quarterback Ben Rothlisberger. On his first podcast episode, Big Ben had this to say about Trubisky:
“In my opinion, I think Mitchell Trubisky is the starter,” Roethlisberger said. “He should start. I think he’s a veteran, he’s been around for a while. He gives you, in my opinion, the best chance to win right now.”
That’s not to say Pickett won’t start eventually, but for now, it looks as if they will go with the veteran until he is ready to take over. It may be a good idea that Pickett continues to learn behind Trubisky and Rudolph, especially knowing also how the Steelers’ offensive line struggled last year. It may not hurt the team if they keep the rookie under wraps at least for now.
