Following an 8-9 regular season and a 31-14 Wild Card round loss to the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making some significant changes to their coaching staff.

According to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times, The Buccaneers have fired offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

“The Bucs have fired offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich,” Stroud wrote in a Tweet. “The team is making sweeping changes to their coaching staff following an 8-9 regular season and wildcard loss to Dallas. As many as five offensive assistants and two on defense are expected to be let go.”

The move to fire Leftwich comes just an offseason after he was considered to be the frontrunner for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching job. That job wound up going to Doug Pederson with Leftwich opting to return to Tampa Bay for another go-round.

If Stroud’s report is any indication, the move to fire Leftwich is just the beginning, as a team that’s two seasons removed from winning a Super Bowl looks to revamp its coaching staff. Bowles will begin to assemble his first offensive staff in Tampa Bay, as he took over a staff that was once led by Bruce Arians.

One name to watch for the now-open offensive coordinator position in Tampa, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo is the University of Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Prior to helping the Bulldogs reach back-to-back national titles, Monken coordinated the Buccaneers’ offense from 2016-18.
