The Tennessee Titans have not had the season most anticipated, currently sitting at 5-11 on the year heading into their Week 18 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With these struggles obviously come questions regarding the future of head coach Mike Vrabel with the team.
Tennessee has had some very good years under Vrabel in the past, finishing over .500 for the first four years of his tenure with the team with postseason appearances in every year from 2019-2021.
However, the team has fallen on hard times lately. This will be the second straight year that the Titans will be missing out on the postseason.
It now seems like the team is trending in a downward direction, which has raised widespread rumors of Vrabel’s job potentially being in jeopardy.
Despite this, Vrabel isn’t listening to the outside noise, instead reaffirming his intention to coach the team for the foreseeable future.
“Of course I want to be here,” Vrabel said via ESPN. “Be here as long as we can win, as long as we can do this thing, and it’s been great. But it also has been just this year. And nobody wants to be where we’re at. If we believed everything that was on social media, it’d be Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and there’s no tooth fairy, you know that. So I really have never responded to any of those. And we’re not going to start now.”
If Titans general manager Ran Carthon and company are going to stick with Vrabel, they will need to believe in his ability to point this team back in the right direction.
Whether he can do that or not is unclear, but time will tell whether Vrabel’s job is truly safe or not.
