The quarterback race for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be heating up. While most think it is Baker Mayfield’s to lose at this point, backup Kyle Trask seems to be making some unexpected noise.

Head coach Todd Bowles had high praise for Trask after his performance Saturday night. Trask was 20-of-28 passing for 218 yards and one touchdown in Saturday’s game.

Bowles said he was impressed by the former Flordia Gators QB.

“Poise in the pocket. A lot more athleticism. He used his legs when he had to, and he was very successful at that. Threw the ball where he was supposed to throw it. Threw some pinpoint passes. Like to have a few plays back. But overall, saw a lot of poise and a lot of growth. I thought he did well.”

Even New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was impressed by Trask’s performance.

While the Jet’s QB was being interviewed during the broadcast, you could hear Rodgers say “Oh my God!” when Trask completed a long pass downfield.

Mayfield sat out this week’s game with some speculating it’s because Bowles has made up his mind already that he would indeed be the starter, but he said he has not set a timetable on who will start for the Bucs leaving the door open for Trask.
