Tom Coughlin may have resigned as the head coach of the New York Giants, but the 69-year-old is still hanging around the team’s facility.

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports Coughlin is still kicking around the Giants’ facility in East Rutherfor, continuing his morning workout routine with former strength and conditioning coach Jerry Palmeri.

It may seem odd, but co-owner John Mara said Coughlin is always welcome with the team.

“No, he’s always welcome here,” co-owner John Mara said of there being a possible issue with Coughlin’s continued presence at the facility. “He’s always welcome here. That’s never been an issue.”

It’s got to be weird for players to see their former coach during offseason workouts when they’re supposed to adapting to new coach Ben McAdoo. However, Coughlin spent more than ten years with the team and is beloved by his former players, so I’m sure they don’t necessarily mind his presence – even if it’s just a bit strange.

Mara told NJ.com the team hasn’t closed the door on Coughlin sticking with the organization, despite his goal of returning to the NFL as a head coach.

“I still think he’s trying to figure out what he’s trying to do,” Mara said. “We’ll see. We haven’t closed the door on [returning to the Giants] yet.”

Coughlin is treating the Giants like an ex-girlfriend you continue to hook up with after you break up before both parties realize how bad an idea that was. Coughlin isn’t getting back together with the Giants and needs to find a new relationship because New York has moved on without him. While the story reads ‘sweet old man continuing his day-to-day routine,’ Coughlin is probably best served finding somewhere else to work out. It’s all seems very awkward for the involved parties.
