Super Bowl Trent Dilfer Aaron Rodgers Tom Brad

Former Super Bowl champion quarterback Trent Dilfer made the news again. This time it’s because of what the new UAB Blazers coach said about the modern-day NFL and two all-time great quarterbacks.

Dilfer appeared on ESPN’s new 30 for 30 documentary Bullies in Baltimore, in which he made some interesting statements about Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

Dilfer explained why he isn’t impressed with modern-day NFL players and particularly Brady and Rodgers.

“The modern-day game does not impress me. It’s super easy when you don’t get hit as a quarterback and when you can’t reroute receivers and when you can’t hit guys across the middle,” Dilfer said, via TMZ.”I love Tom Brady, I love Aaron Rodgers, I love these guys. It’s not impressive. What’s impressive is what they did,” alluding to old-school NFL quarterbacks. There is some truth in what Dilfer is saying. The rules have changed over the years and they have benefitted NFL offenses more than NFL defenses. A perfect example is in a game this season involving the Atlanta Falcons and Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Late in the game, a Falcons defender hit Brady and the defender was called for roughing the passer. On replay, however, Brady was barely touched. The penalty cost the Falcons the game because it was on third down. That give the Bucs a first down, game over. That victory also allowed the Bucs later in the season to not only win the division but make the playoffs over the Carolina Panthers by one game.

So although Dilfer may be right to a certain extent, he probably should have kept that comment to himself. A lot of people will point out that the Super Bowl Champion won behind a great defense, not because of him.
